Mint is grown primarily in eight states: Idaho, Indiana, Michigan, Montana, Oregon, South Dakota, Washington and Wisconsin. There is an average of 150,000 acres of combined peppermint and spearmint cultivated each year. This accounts for more than 70% of the world’s supply of mint. Mint production in the state of Wisconsin ranks 5th in the nation for production of mint oils. About 80-85% of this acreage is devoted to growing peppermint, the remainder to spearmint.
